Redesigned Booking.coms homepage to help users start exploring destinations faster - without losing the excitement of travel.

why redesign Booking.com?

The thought about redesign started when I landed on the homepage - very clear but highly transactional with the deficiency of generating enthusiasm and excitement user looks forward to have while planning/booking for travel.

The thought about redesign started when I landed on the homepage - very clear but highly transactional with the deficiency of generating enthusiasm and excitement user looks forward to have while planning/booking for travel.

This redesign was triggered by the homepage experience itself - clear and well-structured, but overly transactional, with little emotional pull to spark curiosity or excitement during the travel planning journey.

Booking.com is one of the world’s largest travel platforms, yet the homepage felt more like an information dashboard than the beginning of a journey.
It was clear and functional—but emotionally flat. High cognitive load, fragmented discovery, and an overload of choices without context meant users had to think hard before they could even start exploring. The excitement that naturally comes with planning travel was missing.

I approached this redesign by reframing the homepage as an emotionally intelligent entry point, not just a functional surface. The search experience was simplified with clear hierarchy and reduced friction, allowing users to move from intent to exploration faster. Discovery shifted from recall to recognition through sections like Curated for Your Travel Style and Travel by Mood, enabling users to explore based on how they feel rather than forcing precise inputs upfront.

To tackle decision fatigue, exploration was structured as visual narratives. Must-Book Experiences map the journey across the day, helping users imagine their trip instead of scanning endless options. Calm motion, swipeable cards, and soft gradients create momentum without pressure. Deal discovery acknowledges the universal fear of missing out—using visual salience, loss aversion, and subtle horizontal cues to surface value without overwhelming the user. Finally, trust signals such as price guarantees, secure payments, and 24/7 support are surfaced at the right moments to reinforce confidence just before commitment.

The result is a homepage that feels less transactional and more human—designed to reduce cognitive effort, build emotional connection, and guide users from curiosity to confident action.
